John Lewis and Philips AVENT
launch Feeding Awareness Week
Educational in-store customer events, January 2009

Department store supremo John Lewis and Philips AVENT are teaming up for Feeding Awareness Week in January (12 to 18 January 2009) across all their stores. This event has been created to give parents and parents-to-be practical advice on a range of topics relating to feeding (breastfeeding techniques, bottle feeding, expressing and more), to help to make this important stage of parenthood as stress-free and straightforward as possible.

In addition, John Lewis Baby feeding advisors will be on hand throughout the week with plenty of invaluable product information to help guide parents through which products they really need and how to get the best from them through product demonstrations. Appointments can be made in advance with your local John Lewis feeding advisor. There will also be additional support from Philips AVENT special advisors in 10 selected branches including Oxford Street, Peter Jones on Sloane Square, Kingston, Bluewater, Brent Cross, Southampton, Edinburgh, Nottingham, Milton Keynes and Liverpool on Super Saturday, 17 January.

What else will be happening as part of Feeding Awareness Week?

The partnership objective is to create an open dialogue with parents and parents-to-be, providing relevant information, specific advice and listening to consumers’ feedback.

For the duration of the week, Philips AVENT will have a dedicated area in which product demonstrations will take place, with special focus on feeding equipment including bottles, sterilisers and breast pumps.

In addition, a special promotion will offer consumers 20% off Philips AVENT award-winning sterilisers and bottles and educational Baby & You DVD and user-friendly Feeding Diary will be available.

Special Event – John Lewis Oxford Street

On Super Saturday Philips AVENT’s baby feeding and wellbeing advisor, Vicki Scott, will be available to offer free one-to-one sessions at the Oxford Street store with new and expectant parents attending the event. Vicki has been working with mums and babies for nearly 20 years in her capacity as a qualified midwife, nursery and maternity nurse and will be on-hand to help address any baby concerns as well as providing practical tips and advice on baby feeding, expressing, establishing sleep routines and general baby wellbeing.

Pregnancy Health Research

Philips has thrown its weight behind baby charity Tommy’s and their research on the causes and prevention of miscarriage, premature and stillborn babies.

Philips has supplied Tommy’s with state-of-the-art ultrasonic scanning equipment used by hospitals during antenatal care. The equipment is being used as part of the MAPS (Making Pregnancy Safer) study, an international programme to help save mums’ and babies’ lives. The programme will study over 10,000 women experiencing their first pregnancy.

Currently there is no screening test to accurately predict if first time mothers may develop late pregnancy complications. Identifying these women in early pregnancy could prevent almost a third of cases.
